Designer swimwear beach location photo-shoot

A couple of days before the shoot, the Designer, Marie of Sumarie, couriered the swimwear from her Femme Fatale collection over to the Studio in East London, ready to be driven down to the south coast for the upcoming beach shoot.

Arranging to meet up with the shoot team in the morning at Brighton Station, I stayed nearby the shoot location at my rural rental nr Lewes.

Down at the beach, we laid the make-up on the beach picnic-style (behind something solid for shelter, just in case a stronger gust came).  The morning was overcast, and after sitting on a thick material on the beach for a while, we were getting a little chilly, so I arranged with a nearby restaurant to use their warm bathroom for our changing rooms and purchase hot coffees to warm/refresh the team.  Then we were ready to start…

This sparkly piece was the star piece of the collection – the sequined Pantheon swim-suit with its beautiful shape, detail and neck-line.  Shot underneath the pier, with the background’s structure subtly echoing the design of the beautiful swimwear.

Night time fashion shoot at the top of The Shard, London

In an unusual twist, this start-up fashion company strongly wanted to use ‘real people, not professional models’:  The male model is actually the Founder of this new fashion start-up, modelling the mens PJs design.

To create the background of the image, in postproduction I blended three images (all taken at the top of the Shard) to create an effect which is not possible in real life in one shot: having the bokeh effect while simultaneously seeing the background building details. The finished image that was delivered to a very happy client, check out his glowing Testimonial.

The image (below) looks like such a private moment – though there was a Silent Disco in full swing around us – with people drinking, dancing, and singing athems at the tops of their lungs… which, of course, we joined in with as soon as we’d finished getting the shots.

Studio photo-shoot: colourful options

As a teenager my mother send me for dress making lessons, after finding I’d made myself a hat from scratch.  So I’ve had this mannequin since way back then, hanging around my Studio – occasionally giving me a handless-hand by standing-in while I set-up the studio and fire off the lighting test shots.

While the agency model was getting her hair & make-up ready for the beauty shoot, I set up a few different studio photography background colour options.

Core Spirit is a fashion retailer boutique on London’s Bond Street, housing a mixture of fashion Designers.  Core Spirit has quickly carved out a respected position in the market place, with an award winning unique shopper experience, features an in-store catwalk that the public can enjoy strutting on.

Core Spirit needed to create imagery of their retail fashion collection to use in their Lookbook and advertising campaign.

We had 42 outfits to get through in one full day’s shooting at my studio in Hackney.  To keep the pace up, we alternated between shooting two professional models separately, one female model for the womenswear and one male model for menswear.  As soon as we had the shot for each look, swapping out the model to getting changed into the next look.
